Hazardous Air Pollutants Characterization and Control Laboratory
This lab was developed through PSDP Funds amounting to Rs. 44.463 Million.
The main thrust of this laboratory is the Control and Characterization of Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) which are also called Toxic Air Pollutants (TAPs).
For this purpose, three main groups of pollutants are focused:
Industrial Air Pollutants (SOx, NOx etc)
Radioactive Air Pollutants (CH3I, CsI etc)
Chemical Warfare Agents (mustard gas, hydrogen cyanide etc)
Control techniques usually followed include impregnation/doping of various impregnants onto the surfaces of various high surface area substrates using incipient wetness/imbibing limit and/or fluidized bed method. The prepared sample is subjected to calcination/drying before characterization to quantify the actual impregnant. Final qualification test includes the breakthrough time determination test on various concentrations of simulant challenge gases.
