Dr. HAROON-UR-RASHID KHAN

Assalam-o-Elaikum everybody good wishes and welcome to my homepage. I am Deputy Chief Engineer and a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Registrar at the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). My institute PIEAS is located in Islamabad, Pakistan. I did my Bachelors of Electrical Engineering in 1990 from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. I developed keen interest in Digital Electronics and developed Z-80 based ‘Single Board Computer’ as my Final Year Project. Later earned Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1999 from Iowa State University (ISU), USA. It was the first time at ISU when I got familiar with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and designed a DCT based Compression Algorithm for High Altitude Balloon Flights. Further, I did my PhD from School of Computer Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, in July, 2009. My research focused on Multicore On-chip Architectures and worked with a team that proposed a Nobel and unique architecture named TriBA in multicores on chip systems. My current interests are teaching and research in Smart Energy systems, High Performance Computing, Interconnection in Multicore Architectures, Microcontroller Based System, Digital Communication Systems, Digital Logic Design for FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), VLSI implementation of DSP Algorithms using FPGAs, Applications of Digital Electronics. Two PhD students are working with me on implementation of DSP Algorithms using FPGA. I would welcome any ambitious and enthusiastic Masters and PhD student to join our group for research areas mentioned.
