Past Student Projects

Below is a list of thesis work carried out by past students:

2015

Analysis of liver surface smoothness

A. Salim, MS (EE) Session 2013-2015.

Description: The objective of this project is to develop a computing system that automatically analyses liver surface for the diagnosis of significant liver fibrosis. Automated segmentation of liver surface is achieved in this work through a new feature called irregularity index.

Thesis: Research paper Manuscript under preparation.

pyLemmings: A software suite for Multiple Instance Learning

A. Asif, MS (CS) Session 2013-2015.

Description: The objective of this project is to develop an open source software suite for multiple instance learning.

Thesis: Research paper Manuscript under preparation.

Self-taught learning of the protein universe

Fahad-ul-Hasan, MS (EE) Session 2013-2015.

Description: In this work, we investigated the application of self-taught and deep-learning for predicting the properties of proteins.

Spatio-temporal Visual Object Tracking

F. Munir, MS (EE) Session 2013-2015.

Description: The work presented in this thesis has two major parts: development of a new tracking algorithm and a real time application for controlling the computer mouse cursor by tracking eye movements. The first part aims to develop an algorithm that is robust to challenges faced during tracking in an unconstrained environment. A Spatio-temporal context learning algorithm is combined with Kalman filter. This helps the tracker to model the dynamics of the motion of the target. From the results it can be concluded that Spatio-temporal context learning performs better in combination with Kalman filter. In the second part of this work, a real time wearable eye tracker is developed, that tracks the eye movement to control a computer mouse cursor.

2009

Automatic Speaker Recognition System

S. Malik, BS(CIS) Session 2005-2009.

Description: It focuses on the design and development of a telephonic speaker recognition system using Wavelet Transform based MFCC and LPC Features. This project won 3rd Prize in the 8th All Pakistan Inter College/University Software Exhibition and Competition (COMPPEC) held at College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Rawalpindi, July 17-18 2009. It was also selected by PIEAS as the best research thesis for its session 2005-2009.

Project Data: Speech Database for the Project is available on request and can be used by referring to it as PIEAS Speech Database and citing this paper. This database contains both telephonic (from 2 different hand sets) and non-telephonic data collected from more than 50 speakers.

Signature Based Person Verification

M. Nauman Sajid, BS(CIS) Session 2005-2009.

Description: This project focuses on developing a signature based person identity verification system. Signatures are acquired using a PC tablet in digitized form and certain global (Wavelet transform based) and time domain features are extracted from them for recognition.

Project Data: Signature Database for the Project is available on request. This data base can be used by referring to it as PIEAS Signature Database and citing the thesis for this project.
